Running Hummingbird: PTSD and Kratom Awareness

Donation protected

One year ago, our son Danny Domres crossed the bridge to be with his ancestors. A decorated US Army Veteran and accomplished Ultramarathoner, Danny overcame PTSD from his tour overseas, combat against hostile forces (he earned the Combat Infantry Badge) and addiction to alcohol. On August 17, 2022, Danny had achieved 5 years of sobriety.

What we did not realize that Danny had starting taking Kratom to help recover from nagging injuries sustained from his ultramarathon training. He had heard the Kratom was a wonder supplement that could help with pain while allowing him to recover faster.

On September 11, 2022, Danny woke up and was getting ready to start his daily routine: hydrate, get his gear on and run some insane distance. He never made it. He lost consciousness in the hallway and his heart stopped. In an instant, he was gone and crossed the bridge.

This rocked our world. Our family has been grieving for a year, and now that that year has passed, it is time to get busy and act. Danny's parents Julie and Tom (me) are starting The Running Hummingbird Foundation in memory of Danny.

The mission of this Foundation to bring awareness about PTSD and the dangers of Kratom. We will do this by providing information and holding events that help educate runners and others about the dangers of Kratom and PTSD while providing resources to those who are addicted to Kratom or suffering from PTSD.

We are having our first event at the Twin Cities Marathon on the Weekend of September 29 through October 1, 2023. Many participants will be running the full marathon, half marathon and 5K races wearing special "Run Free Danny" t-shirts. Our supporters will be everywhere on race weekend!

Our goal with this fundraiser is to raise funds to plan a Spring Race in Danny's memory, create a website, create a non-Profit and provide educational materials.

This is just the first step on a long journey to bring hope and light in the dark to those who are suffering. We cannot do this alone; we need your help!

It's time to Run Free, Hummingbirds!
