Running for RALC - Donate to Adult ESL & Literacy Programs

Donation protected

Hi friends! I’m running my first half marathon, the Yosemite Half , on May 10, 2025. It feels like a great opportunity to raise awareness and money for an important cause, and I’ve chosen to fundraise for Richardson Adult Literacy Center (RALC) , a 501(c)(3) community-based literacy organization serving the DFW area.

RALC’s Mission: “Empowering ESL Adult Learners, Transforming Communities. The Richardson Adult Literacy Center (RALC) provides English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to hundreds of DFW adults each year from all over the world, empowering them to communicate with confidence & contribute generously to their families and communities.”

I’m closely familiar with this organization because my awesome, hardworking mom started working at RALC as a Volunteer Coordinator in 2015. She’s been involved at varying capacities ever since—ten years! Through her work, I’ve seen firsthand the way that the organization stretches each dollar as far as it can go, the devotion and countless extra hours that all of the staff put in, and the care and energy that RALC’s volunteer teachers dedicate to supporting their students.

At a time when resources are particularly scarce for immigrants and non-English speaking adults in the DFW area, RALC continues to provide essential opportunities through ESL classes, Citizenship Test Prep Classes, and Career Bridge courses. About 400 adult students utilize these resources each semester, and with the current level of demand, more funds and volunteers would allow even more students to participate.

As a small non-profit, RALC relies on individual donors to sustain operations and meet its mission each year. Your donation would go directly to Student Textbooks/Workbooks, Volunteer Training Costs, Classroom Materials, and General Operations at RALC.

Some examples of operational costs:
$18 pays for a wireless speaker so students can participate in listening exercises
$29 provides a set of spirals for an ESL classroom
$36 pays for one textbook and workbook for a student
$55 helps cover the cost of training for 1 volunteer teacher
$100 - $300 Helps pay for staff hours in support of students and volunteer teachers

I hope you’ll join me in contributing to an organization that is actively working to support the DFW community in an important and under-represented way. Every little bit helps!

RALC is also always looking for volunteer teachers, substitutes, or volunteer office help. Contact me if you’re interested and I’ll connect you with my mom. Thank you so much for your time.
