Our names are Hannah and Alexandra Bloomfield, and this May we'll be running a half-marathon together for a cause that means everything to us, in honour of someone we love deeply, whose strength and resiliency has shaped our family.

As we train for this race, a member of our family who lives with Muscular Dystrophy, faces challenges most people never have to think twice about. Watching them navigate life with patience, resilience, strength and humour has had a deep impact on us and inspired us to turn this race into something bigger than ourselves.

Muscular dystrophy is a group of rare, progressive neuromuscular diseases that cause muscle weakness over time. As the disease progresses, everyday activities like walking, standing, lifting, and even breathing can become increasingly difficult. There is currently no cure, and daily life often requires constant adaptation and support.

For many families, this means living with ongoing mobility challenges, reliance on specialized equipment, and physical limitations that affect far more than just one person.

Living with muscular dystrophy also comes with significant financial burdens. Families often face high costs for wheelchairs, mobility aids, home modifications, medical equipment, travel to specialists, and ongoing care expenses that are essential but not always fully covered.

We’re running in honour of someone we love deeply, but also for the thousands who are affected by it. All funds raised will be donated directly to Muscular Dystrophy Canada, supporting both vital research and family assistance programs. Your donation helps advance treatments, improve access to essential equipment and services, and support Canadian families who need help today.
