Running the Goggins Challenge for Karin

Tax deductible
On August 2, 2019 I lost my Mom to congestive heart failure. It all "happened so fast." The time from my Dad calling to tell me she was going into the hospital, to her being gone forever was 12 days. She had been sick, but the progression of it all still caused emotional whiplash. May 10, 2020 will be my first Mother's Day without her here. It's a lot to process, and these difficult days make it even heavier than it already would be.

If you know me, you know that I enjoy running. I've always thought it would be great to honor my Mom through my running, but I never really had an idea come together. But this morning (May 5th, Happy Cinco) I was browsing Strava while getting ready to go for a run, and I noticed a unique challenge from one of my favorite content creators, Billy Yang. He was challenging his community of runners to join him in the "Goggins Challenge." You can research David Goggins on your own time, but essentially the Goggins Challenge is a 4 x 4 x 48 run, walk, ride, or whatever you can do. 4 miles, every 4 hours, for 48 hours. I went out the door for my run, but the challenge would not leave my mind. Since all of my races have been cancelled, my training has just been for fitness. I'm still running, but my motivation and drive have been lessened during these days of quarantine. Then I realized I could use this challenge, which is so conveniently organized on the days leading up to Mother's Day,  to honor my Mom, challenge myself, and raise money for the American Heart Association. I will be starting Thursday, May 7th at 6:00 PM CST. I will do the challenge in synchronization with Billy's challenge, so I will run at 2:00, 6:00, and 10:00 AM & PM for 12 reps, but I will be doing one extra rep to total 52 miles in 52 hours. My Mom was 52 when she passed away. Would you join me in donating to the AHA? Maybe you are able to give $52 to honor my Mom. Maybe you can give $5.20. Whatever you can give, I will be forever grateful. Not only is the AHA working to eliminate heart disease, but they are also on the front lines fighting the COVID-19 pandemic with blood donations and. more. Thank you for your support, and please follow me on Strava  where I will be posting every single run in real time, as well as our Podcast's Instagram  for updates on how it's going.
