Running for justice
“We all are so deeply interconnected; we have no option but to love all. Be kind and do good for any one and that will be reflected. The ripples of the kind heart are the highest blessings of the Universe.”
The evolution of humanity reveals how we are all interconnected; we all come from one. The evolution of dark skin is believed to have begun 1.2 million years ago in light-skinned hominid species. As these species moved from shaded rainforests to sunny savannas, their bodies lost body hair to perspire more efficiently. The loss of hair led to the development of darker pigmentation. By the time homo sapiens evolved, all humans were dark-skinned.
The development of dark skin essentially stemmed from a mechanism of survival. Now, over one million years later dark-skinned individuals are still trying to figure out how to survive. George Floyd went to the grocery store, Ahmaud Arbery went for a run, Ezell Ford went for a walk, Tamir Rice was playing at the park and Botham Jean was in his own living room. How many more innocent lives will be taken until racism ends?
Running a half marathon has been on my bucket list for years now. I know I finally have the willpower to complete one, as I will be running on behalf of all the victims whose lives unrightfully ended due to racism and police brutality. This personal half marathon will be ran on Saturday, August 22nd, 2020.
I will be raising money and donating all proceeds to Black Visions Collective, BLVC. This organization was established in 2017 with the intentions to shape a political home for Black people across Minnesota. They center their work in healing and transformative justice principles as they strive to empower Minnesota’s emerging black leadership to lead powerful and monumental campaigns.
BLVC envisions a world in which all black lives matter. I stand with BLVC and hope you can too. Please join me as I do my part to make a change. All proceeds will go to BLVC.
Spread the word and share this post so we can raise as much money as possible. Every penny counts!
Thank you.
***I will post screen shots of the final amount raised as well the donation transaction***
