Running for Harry’s Heart
Harmen Hiemstra (Harry) my Step Dad, on 06/08/2023 passed away from Sudden Cardiac Death.
As I am living away from family interstate, the times I get to see them are few and far between. My next catchup with him was due on the 8th of August. Unfortunately I missed out on seeing him again.
My mental and emotional journey since his passing has been gruelling, however I was set on one thing - not losing my smile. Even though I am missing a massive part of who I am today (with Harry standing 6”6 his importance was obvious), he’s taught me so much about life that I will carry on. I owe my appreciation for the simple things in life, and the hobbies which fill me with such passion and joy.
I’ve had overwhelming support from everyone in my bid to turn a tragedy into something meaningful. In saying that, my intention with this fundraiser is to raise money for endUCD (Unexpected Cardiac Death) research by competing in the 2024 Sydney Marathon on the 15/09. I’ll be going for a personal time of 3:30:00. It will not come easy and I have many physical, emotional and mental challenges ahead of me in my training. Out there, I want to step beyond my comfort zones and create an impact. I will be posting and documenting my journey. The ups and downs. The wins and the losses.

I am so grateful to have my physical health, and use it in towards this amazing cause in the hopes of helping others. Any donation will be incredibly meaningful to me.
Every heart beat is so important. You don’t know when your last will be.
Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to read this.
For All of you. Yet most importantly.
For Harry!
