Running for a Dream: Representing Two Nations, Empowering the Next Generation
My name is Sunny Akhigbe, and in June 2026, I will be competing in two major endurance events:
• Bank of America Chicago 13.1 – June 7
• IRONMAN 70.3 Rockford, Illinois – June 14
As I line up at the starting line, I will be proudly representing both Nigeria and the United States — two places that have shaped my life, my purpose, and my commitment to service.
But this journey is about more than racing.
It’s about running for a dream bigger than myself.
Why I’m Running:
I am using these races as a platform to raise $25,000 for A Boy and His Dream Foundation, a nonprofit I founded to help young people overcome barriers and pursue education, purpose, and opportunity.
Our goal is simple but powerful:
Sponsor 10 college students
• 5 students in Chicago
• 5 students in Nigeria
These funds will directly support:
• Tuition assistance
• Educational resources
• Mentorship and guidance
• Long-term academic and personal development
For many of these students, this support is the difference between giving up and moving forward.
The Heart Behind “A Boy and His Dream”
A Boy and His Dream was born from lived experience. I know what it feels like to dream big while facing real obstacles — financial hardship, lack of access, and limited opportunity. I also know what happens when someone believes in you, invests in you, and reminds you that your dream matters.
This foundation exists to be that belief system for young people — to tell them:
Your background does not define your future. Your dream is valid.
And someone is running with you.
Every mile I run in June represents a student running toward a better future.
How You Can Help:
I’m asking you to join me on this journey.
Your support — whether large or small — will:
• Help fund scholarships
• Create access to education
• Empower young dreamers to rise
Together, we can turn endurance into impact, effort into opportunity, and dreams into reality.
Thank You!
-Thank you for believing in this mission.
-Thank you for believing in our youth.
-Thank you for helping us prove that when a community comes together, dreams move forward.
With gratitude and purpose,
Sunny Akhigbe
