Running a Marathon for the Igulu Foundation!

Hallo, mijn naam is Tyrone en de afgelopen maand ben ik in Uganda geweest om vrijwilligerswerk te doen bij de Igulu Foundation. Het is een NGO die zorgt voor weeskinderen, kinderen met een beperking en alleenstaande moeders. Het is een goed doel dat bijna compleet afhankelijk is van vrijwilligers, terwijl het zich bevind in een klein dorp en aan donateurs komen voor hun heel lastig is.

Het geld wordt gebruikt voor voeding, medische zorg, schoolgeld, de huur, slaapspullen en schoolmateriaal zodat er op de foundation zelf ook les kan worden gegeven. Igulu's grootste droom is ook om een motor te kopen om de kinderen naar school te kunnen brengen, aangezien sommigen flinke afstanden moeten afleggen om naar school te komen. Daarnaast is het ook een droom om zijn eigen land te kopen en uit te breiden zodat er meer weeskinderen bij de foundation terecht kunnen.

Er slapen in totaal 15 kinderen op de foundation, waarvan de meesten hun ouders verloren zijn bijvoorbeeld HIV of waarvan de ouders afstand hebben gedaan omdat ze niet voor hun konden zorgen. Ik heb met eigen ogen kunnen zien hoe geweldig al deze kinderen zijn, de liefde die Igulu en zijn vrouw hen geven en de zorg die hun geleverd wordt. Ik weet daarom ook dat élke euro naar de kinderen gaat, en ook dat élke euro hun helpt om voor de kinderen te zorgen. Al deze kinderen verdienen een prachtige toekomst en de kans om hun dromen na te jagen.

Zondag 11 Mei loop ik de marathon van Leiden, met als doel geld op te halen voor deze prachtige kinderen. Ik zou het fantastisch vinden als ik met behulp van jullie één droom van Igulu kan verwezenlijken door 750 euro op te halen voor een motor om de kinderen naar school te brengen. Echt elke euro is welkom en ik hoop dat we dit doel samen kunnen behalen!

Hello there!

My name is Tyrone and the past month I have spent in Uganda to volunteer at the Igulu Foundation, which cares for orphans, children with disabilities and single mothers. It is a charity that is almost completely dependent on volunteers. However, it is a Non-governmental organization and located in a small village which makes it very difficult for them to find donors.

All the money donated will go to the children, which contains food, medical care, school fees, rent, sleeping gear and school supplies so that lessons can be given at the foundation itself. Igulu also has bigger dreams, for example to buy a motorbike to be able to take the children to school, as some have to travel considerable distances to get to school. In addition, it is also a dream to buy and expand his own land so that more orphans can be accommodated at the foundation.

A total of 15 children sleep at the foundation, most of whom have lost their parents, for example due to HIV or because their parents could not care for them. I have seen with my own eyes how wonderful all these children are, the love that Igulu and his wife give them and the care that is provided to them. I therefore know that every euro goes to the children, and that every euro also helps them a lot to take care of the children. All these children deserve a wonderful future and the chance to pursue their dreams.

On May 11th I will run the Leiden marathon, with the aim of raising money for these beautiful children. I would love it if, with your help, I could make one of Igulu's dreams come true by raising 750 euros for a motorbike to take the children to school. Every euro is really welcome and I hope that we can achieve this goal together!
