Running 26.2 miles for Dave Duncan

On the 7th April 2019 I will be running the Greater Manchester Marathon again...originally I was going to run this for “fun” (I’m mad) and attempt to qualify for the London Marathon! However, over the course of 2018 a family member Dave Duncan, his partner Steph and his two young boys have gone through what can only be described as the worst year of their life’s!
Dave Duncan is a loving family man who was unfortunately diagnosed with Stage 2 throat cancer in January after having various scans and biopsy’s. He underwent 6 weeks of chemotherapy and radiotherapy at the Christie’s hospital. Dave was given the all clear in April.
However, he was still having issues with eating and drinking and became very poorly when fluid was beginning to enter his lungs. After being admitted to the North Manchester Hospital he was put onto a feeding tube. Whilst they operated a suspicious lump was found, the biopsy confirmed the cancer had returned. A Laryngectomy was the only remaining treatment. It was major surgery and came with lots of risks!
On the 17th December Dave underwent the Laryngectomy, he pulled through and is on the road to recovery. He has no voice at the moment as his voice box and vocal cords had to be removed. Another operation may be available to Dave once he has healed to give him his voice back.
As you can imagine, the heartache for the family must be unbearable! I have decided I want to help by fundraising to raise at least £1000 for the family. They as a family can choose what this money go towards, whether that be a very well deserved break for the family once Dave is back on his feet, or putting the money back into the research of cancer!
I wish the best of luck to Dave and his recovery! He’s been through so much in such a short space of time but he’s never given up!
