On 23rd-24th May, I’ll be running 100km non-stop from London to Brighton to raise funds for Lorenzo’s House, supporting families affected by younger-onset dementia.
... I have never run 100km before or anything close to 100km.
So this decision was either deeply meaningful…or a brief lapse in judgement. OR both.
Why this matters
Dementia directly or indirectly impacts us all. I have personally seem it re-shape my grandparents lives.
Yet - dementia is often thought of as something that only happens later in life. But younger-onset dementia affects people before the age of 65 - sometimes in their 30s, 40s, or 50s.
My why
This cause is deeply personal to me.
Through my partner Will and his incredible mum Ronnie, who was diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer’s at just 49, I’ve seen what this diagnosis really means. Will was 16 and his sister 19 when their world shifted overnight.
I’ve seen how much strength families are asked to carry - quietly, ,continuously and often without recognition. I’ve also seen how isolating this experience can be, especially when the world doesn’t expect dementia to affect families so young. It’s through Will and his family that I came to know Lorenzo’s House.
Why Lorenzo’s House
Lorenzo’s House provides free support for families affected by younger-onset dementia around the world. Creating spaces where children, teenagers, young adults, and care partners can feel understood and less alone - often for the first time. In a world where dementia still carries stigma, and where most support services are not built with younger families in mind. Lorenzo’s House offers something rare and deeply needed: understanding without explanation.
Please consider donating
Running 100km without stopping will test me in every possible way. There will be sore legs, blisters, mental bargaining (“just one nap?”), and moments where stopping feels like a very sensible idea.
But every step is for families who don’t get to stop, reset, or opt out.
If you’re able to donate, you’ll be helping families facing dementia find connection, support and understanding at one of the hardest points in their lives. And if your donation helps drag me through the final miles when my legs are negotiating a formal complaint, even better.
Thank you,
