Those who have followed Whitner's journey with Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome know how she is attacking the rare disease with courage, faith, and determination to regain her life. We're incredibly glad she's back home in Anderson after being in Cinncinati for months away from family, but know the journey continues. Whitner and I became friends in middle school after she moved to Gastonia and stayed friends through high school, college, and now 10yrs later.

 

I'm running the Austin Marathon on February 20th in Whitner's honor to raise money for Be The Match organization that matches donors with patients like Whitner in need of cellular therapy for blood cancers. Whatever you feel like donating will make an impact not only for Be The Match, but also personally for Whitner as she continues to fight and finds strength in all of us who she is inspiring as well.
