Fun Run Walk to raise funds for Healthy strides
Kia ora/Hello Whanau, friends and Family!
Sunday 11th September from 9am we will be walking/running from the Grind Reaper coffee shop in Port Coogee along the walking track or along the beach up to Woodman point Jetty and back( Roughly 5km) There's also lots of prizes and goodies up for grabs for those participating on the day as well!!
As a passionate personal trainer I love helping people find their love for movement through fitness and community! But not everyone has that opportunity, my little brother was born with Cerebral Palsy and will never walk.... Well thats what the doctor said but through his determination and the help from HEALTHY STRIDES, they provide individualised goal directed intensive therapy programs for children and young adults with neurologically based conditions and injuries. This includes people with cerebral palsy, acquired brain injuries and spinal cord injuries.
Increasingly, research supports the effectiveness of focused and specific activity based interventions. This is the basis of motor learning and neuroplasticity where it is understood that consolidated mass practice of specific tasks has the potential to change neurological pathways. Interventions based on this principle are known as Activity Based Rehabilitation.
Embracing principles of neuroplasticity through Activity Based Rehabilitation approaches has the potential to improve each person's ability as well as to importantly, increase participation in life situations whether that be at home, school or community.
