Run For The Voice

Donation protected

WE'RE BACK!!!

Run For The Voice is doubling the impact this Thursday as I join forces with the Legend that is Pat Farmer.

Pat is rolling out 14,500km around Australia to raise nation-wide awareness of the Voice.

I've kept the legs operating since February and am hopeful of completing the 67km I set out to do then.

There are plenty of people that have already donated, and some that have thought about it and decided not to, and some that haven't even thought about it. Now is the time to commit. Every dollar raised has the opportunity to contribute to putting expert Voices out in the community as First Nations People seek to be heard around the country as we all push hard for the Voice to be cemented in the constitution.

Donate here and feel free to meet at Queen St Campbelltown at 0500, WIN Stadium Wollongong at 1400 or Port Kembla at 1530.

See you on the toe!

Hello People.

In 2023 we will be offered an opportunity to appropriately include a First Nations Voice to Parliament by way of a Referendum.

The 1967 Referendum sought to see First Nations People counted as people in the census, and in honour of the resounding yes I’m going to run 67km on Sunday, February 12.

I’m doing this to raise awareness and build support for another resounding YES vote in 2023. We’ll also raise some much needed funds so that the people directly behind the Voice proposition aren’t left wanting.

I'd love to make this a community event so get in touch and we can run together, a 6km loop by the beach in Wollongong, Dharawal Country.

A bit more information on the Voice:

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have consistently called for self-determination, rather than symbolism, to make a real difference to their lives. Constitutional recognition through a Voice will give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people agency to help inform decisions that impact their lives.

Current policy-making does not have a systematic process for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to provide advice, meaning that policy is often made for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people rather than with them.

Constitutional recognition through a Voice would enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to advise the Federal Parliament about laws and policies that impact them through a simplified policy making process and structural change.

This means that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are included in the law-making process, rather than having bureaucrats and politicians deciding what is best for them.

Constitutional recognition through a Voice will deliver real and practical advice to Parliament and the Government on how laws and policies can best improve the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

When Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who know and understand the best way to deliver real and practical change in their communities have a say through a Voice, we will finally be able to close the gap that still exists between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians. This is why it is so important.

You can learn more about the Voice to Parliament here: https://fromtheheart.com.au/what-is-a-voice-to-parliament/

The Uluru Statement from the Heart is a call by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for real and practical change in Australia by delivering constitutional recognition through a Voice to Parliament and the establishment of a Makarrata Commission, to undertake processes of treaty-making and truth-telling.

The proposal for constitutional recognition through a Voice to Parliament is in line with the call outlined by the Uluru Statement From The Heart. Learn more about the statement here: https://ulurustatemdev.wpengine.com
