Run for Change: My Athens Marathon Fundraiser
Donation protected
Hello Mo chairde, my friends!
I’m thrilled and slightly terrified to announce that in just under four weeks, I'll be running my first ever marathon in the historic city of Athens—the birthplace of the marathon itself. It's a massive challenge I've been eagerly preparing for(I’ll share the preparation afterwards!!), and one that fills me with both nerves and excitement.
To ensure I cross that finish line, I've decided to run not just for personal achievement but also for two causes that deeply resonates with me. I’m raising funds for two remarkable initiatives: Ballyfermot Star in Dublin and Good Hands Community Project in Brazil. These organizations do vital work, and I invite you to join me in supporting them.
*Why Donate?*
*1. Ballyfermot Star: Réalt Nua, Dublin*
The Réalt Nua project is an incredible community-focused initiative providing employment opportunities, personal development, and training for disadvantaged and unemployed individuals. Their services aim to break the cycle of unemployment through:
- Evidence-based programs like Reduce the Use and Peer Support
- Educational courses and professional training with a QQI accreditation
- Holistic therapies, including acupuncture, Reiki, and massage
- Personal key working and counseling support
By supporting Réalt Nua, you’re empowering individuals in Dublin to acquire new skills, gain confidence, and return to the workforce, fostering a more enriching and supportive community.
*2. Good Hands Community Project, São Paulo*
During my visit to Brazil last year, I witnessed the extraordinary dedication of Mara, Nelson, and their team at the Good Hands charity (Projeto Mãos do Bem). This small yet impactful NGO, based in Iguape, just two hours from São Paulo, is a beacon of hope for struggling families:
- The organization collects, cooks, and delivers nutritious meals and food packages to those in need.
- They serve families who face daily challenges and food insecurity, providing them essential support and relief.
Contributing to Good Hands helps ensure that numerous hardworking families don’t have to worry about their next meal, granting them dignity and comfort during tough times.
*Why Now?*
Your support will not only motivate me to push through every mile but will also create real and positive change for these deserving communities. Whatever you can contribute—be it €10, €50, or more—it will make a massive impact on both projects.
*How You Can Help:*
1. *Donate*: Every little bit helps and no donation is too small.
2. *Share*: If you're unable to donate, sharing this campaign with your network can make a huge difference.
3. *Encourage*: Send words of motivation to each other and myself As I gear up for this marathon challenge I’m feeling a little underprepared and nervous but want to overcome my own limiting beliefs and hope we encourage each other to push limits.
Let's transform this marathon journey into an opportunity for kindness, growth, and positive change. Thank you for your generosity and belief in these essential causes.
In honor of Irene
It would have been my mother’s 70th birthday on this weekend although she sadly left us 26 years ago and so I will be running with a tshirt celebrating her life. Her name was Irene and she was beautiful.
With gratitude and anticipation,
