Run Batley Run – Khalid’s Challenge for Good

Why I’m Running – Khalid’s Story

On 27th April, I’ll be taking on the Manchester Marathon – 26.2 miles of grit, determination, and purpose. But this run isn’t just about clocking a time or chasing a medal. I’m running for something far more meaningful – to raise money for the people, places, and causes I care deeply about: Batley Baths, our Batley community, and most importantly, Downs and Special Friends (DNSF).

DNSF is a small but powerful charity based in Batley, supporting children and adults with Down Syndrome, Autism, ADHD, and other additional needs. They’re a lifeline to so many families – offering friendship, understanding, and opportunities that simply don’t exist elsewhere. Their work is personal to me, and I’ve witnessed the difference they make in people’s lives. DNSF brings dignity, fun, and inclusion to those who are so often left behind.

We now have an incredible opportunity: to restore and reopen the historic Batley Baths, a stunning Grade II listed building that’s stood at the heart of our town for over a century. It was once a place where generations came to swim, relax, and connect. But for years now, the doors have been closed.

Our vision is to bring it back – not just as a pool, but as a fully accessible, inclusive community hub. A place where DNSF can run activities, sensory sessions, therapies, inclusive sports, family days and so much more. A place that welcomes everyone, regardless of ability.

But we can’t do it alone.

By running this marathon, I’m asking for your help. Every pound raised will go towards the plans to restore Batley Baths and create something truly special for our community. Your support will help DNSF provide life-changing opportunities in a space that reflects the love and resilience of the people it serves.

So please – donate what you can, share this page, and cheer me on as I run every mile with Batley and DNSF in my heart.

Let’s do this together. For Batley. For inclusion. For every family who needs us.
