I am trying to raise funds to create a community fridge and dry pantry in front of the old church.
My local pantry is struggling to carry the weight of rising demand for food, and I hope to create even if small, a bit of relief available to the community 24 hours!
The pandemic has forced the pantry to only operate only 1x a week leaving folks who can't make those hours hungry.
The table in front of the church already acts as a collection area but the rats get to the food before people do.
I hope to paint a mural and clean the area up and create a welcoming community space. Build bins with lids, a small lending library, and buy a working refrigerator.
I've already reached out to my neighbors and with these funds, we hope to work together (safely) to create this space! The church caregivers gave us the green light to paint too! with help from a local artist, we plan to create a mural that embraces the spirit of Bed-Stuy and everyone on our block.
