For the Kyrkostas Family
Donation protected
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Sandy Kyrkostas. Sandy passed away peacefully, this past Saturday, April 15th, surrounded by his family.
Sandy has courageously lived the last eight years of his life battling Stage 4 Colon Cancer. It would have been easy for Sandy to give up hope the minute he was diagnosed, but he refused the diagnosis and chose to fight this horrific disease to the very end.
If you knew Sandy, you knew he wasn’t a quitter. He was a hustler by nature, and he wasn’t about to let this disease stop him from living his best life. He woke up each day ready to fight. He maintained a positive outlook on life, which in turn inspired so many others! He never complained, even through the multiple surgeries and chemo treatments he had to endure. He always maintained an upbeat and positive outlook on life and he refused to let cancer define him.
One of Sandy’s greatest achievements was his family. He leaves behind his beautiful wife Michelle, and his two beautiful children Stephen and Sophia, who both attend college. Sandy lived for his family, and it is one of the reasons he fought so hard.
You could often find Sandy cheering his children on at any given ice rink, on any given weekend. He was a prominent figure in the ice hockey community and he will surely be missed. He formed lifelong friendships in those ice rinks, some of whom turned into family, and remain so to this day.
He has left behind family and friends, too numerous to count, that he grew up with in his childhood neighborhood of Astoria, Queens. Childhood friends that have remained friends for decades. Again, they weren’t just friends, they were family.
Sandy was a wonderful and devoted husband and a father who loved his children with every fiber of his being. He was also a loving brother, uncle, and a friend to so many.
As we can all imagine, this horrific illness has put a tremendous strain on, not only our beloved Sandy, but also his family in more ways than one. Please consider donating. Any donation you can afford would help them tremendously.
Thank you for supporting the Kyrkostas family throughout this time of illness, loss, and grieving. Words cannot express their gratitude. Please take the time to share this. Anything and everything is greatly appreciated
