We are a Palestinian family of six who have narrowly escaped death multiple times during the Gaza war that began on October 7, 2023 — a war that continues to this day.

For seven long months, we lived through relentless bombing, total destruction, and unimaginable suffering. We had no home — only makeshift tents to hide in — and no access to clean water or food. Every day was filled with fear, hunger, and pain that words cannot fully describe.

This is the fifth war we have endured since childhood. Our lives have been surrounded by violence and destruction, as if death was a constant companion.

And yet, we never gave up hope.

In the midst of the chaos, one small creature stayed by our side — our beloved cat. She survived everything with us, and today she is here with us in Portugal — a symbol of resilience and life.

Just one week before the Rafah border crossing closed, we made the hardest decision of our lives: we fled to Egypt to escape death. After enduring more hardship there, we finally reached Portugal, hoping to start over in a safe and peaceful place.

We are not asking for charity — we are asking for a chance to live with dignity and to stand on our own feet.
