Dear Members,
Firstly, we want to extend our support to our neighbors in our community. COVID-19 has affected all of us. Watching this neighborhood rally together to support its healthcare workers, teachers, students and families has been inspiring and a testament to the uniqueness of the Wexford community. We are truly grateful to live in such a supportive neighborhood.
The Board would like to update you regarding the current status of Wexford Leas Swim Club (WLSC) and how COVID-19 has affected it. Typically this time of the year, board members would be scouting out volunteers to prepare the swim club for the seasons opening. There would be a flurry of fundraisers, hiring of lifeguards and Turtle coaches, practices for the Wexford Whales swim team, and accepting membership applications.
This pandemic has also impacted our very own neighborhood swim club as well. While it is our heartfelt desire to open the club this season, we find ourselves in a holding pattern, waiting on the governors mandate.
The model for opening up our seasonal club is based on receiving membership dues and sponsorships, the same as other clubs in Cherry Hill. Whether we open or not, funds are needed to cover essential seasonal expenses of roughly $20,000 that includes: insurance, property taxes, maintenance and utilities that do not go away if the club does not open. Cherry Hill Township has received a grant, but it excludes using the funds towards private recreational clubs such as our club. The Board has reviewed extensively the financial stimulus packages and has reduced expenses. As a non-profit entity, we are supported by membership dues - without them, we are unable to cover these costs.
We understand the hesitation to pay membership fees as the club's opening status is uncertain. Please consider making a donation of $150 per family (more is good - or whatever you can) to help ensure the clubs financial stability in 2020. This provides essential funds to pay for its opening expenses. We need your action immediately as the club is currently deferring its financial responsibilities. Your support will help get us through these challenging times.
We have watched this community come together in remarkable ways in the last few weeks. Please consider helping your neighborhood icon and gathering place today. Your contribution allows us to continue to be a part of the Wexford community for years to come.
