On September 1st our nursery and tool cache got severely flooded. The storm surge inundated every item we have accumulated over our 20 years of community stewardship. Our Native Tree nursery was also severely impacted. The storm surge was 6 feet higher than Floyd. Our storage line was 24” above Floyd because it was considered safe from floods… not anymore.
We’ve already cleaned and restored many of our hand tools. Some or our more elaborate tools need specialized service.
Our Native Tree Nursery took losses. Full sections of the nursery were washed out. Our team has been busy tipping the trees upright again. With great pride we are still expecting to be able to plant over 4 hundred trees this fall. To do so we’ll need our many more of our specialized tools restored. We’ll also need to replenish consumables in the nursery. Last year the nursery contributed over $15,000 in plants and trees to our community.
Our team of stewards logged 2,300 volunteer hours in our Rox Manayunk community. Year to date we already exceeded that benchmark. During this challenging time, we respectfully ask for financial support so we can continue our good work. Now more than ever we want to get ready for the fall planting season.
Please take a moment to fund community greening. %100 of the funds goes to materials or real cost that directly contribute to the green spaces within our community. We have no paid staff. Just good citizens.
Please support your green spaces by helping us get back to full strength. Most sincere thanks.
