BlueMed Africa - Ghana Medical Mission Fundraiser
Donazione protetta
We are Medical Students at Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine, and this summer, as part of the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA), we will be volunteering our time and efforts with the non-profit organization, Blue-Med Africa, on a Medical Relief Trip in Ho, Ghana.
My name is Bartosz Skiba, and I am a first-year Rowan-Virtua SOM student and the Vice President of the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA).
This year we are fortunate to resume Rowan-Virtua SOM's long-standing tradition of global health outreach by resuming our medical mission trip to Ho, Ghana, with a cohort of eight first-year students.
During our time in Ghana, we will be volunteering with medical professionals to provide residents with the healthcare they so desperately need. The area we will work in is one of the most impoverished in this region, with health disparities further exacerbated by a lack of medical relief and supplies during the first two years of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In the communities, we aim to organize free-of-charge mobile clinics to allow for thorough medical screening, consults, and access to medications and medical supplies. Additionally, we will visit orphanages, hospitals, schools, and a cured leper’s village to provide medical assistance.
Additionally, any medications we will be using to treat patients while we are there will be supplied by our partnering organization – Blue Med Africa – using our fundraising donations.
We have been passionately fundraising and will continue to do so until we leave on June 4th. Aside from strictly medical supplies, we also hope to use some funds to purchase toys, stickers, school supplies, and toothbrushes for orphans, which can be donated at either the Sewell or Stratford campuses.
We will be using 100% of the proceeds to benefit the patients and residents of Ho. Any contribution helps, and please keep in mind that our goal is to utilize this money to purchase as many medical resources in the United States to then hand deliver to Blue-Med Africa when we arrive in Ghana!
