Rose Island Farm Community Build

Donation protected
Rose Island Farm is a one acre indigenous owned farm in Puyallup territory. We are BIPOC centered safer space where we can practice our indigenous values and ways that heal the people and the land. Community comes together every week to share food, make medicine, grow, harvest, process and love on each other. We work from the deeply held knowledge that we come to the world with the knowledge we need to heal ourselves and our communities. These ways of knowing have been passed on through oral history as well as being recorded and preserved in the land and in a rich plant legacy. Our ancestral knowledge gets awakened when we connect to the plant lineages that have supported and sustained us for lifetimes. Here at the farm, we endeavor to promote these life sustaining relationships and opportunities to connect deeply with plants and herbs through growing ancestral foods and herbs, preservation, distillation and communal herb stewardship classes.

We need funding for phase 1 of building out farm infrastructure for 2022. Phase 1 is the week of January 17! We need to purchase materials to build composting toilet, benches for medicine garden, barn tables for processing plants and animals, picnic tables for community gatherings and eduction, barn repairs, and so much more!!

Our amazing friend Andrea will be traveling up from Portland, OR and leading the week of building. Some of the funds will also go toward their labor, love, and generosity!
Andrea (they/them/elle) is a queer agender creative and contractor who specializes in residential remodeling and being an uncle to your animals and babies. With roots in the north american southwest and mexican southwest, Andrea finds the most joy when they are cultivating and expanding their relationship with the land and with their communities through art, dance, prayer, plant medicine and building (to name a few). They have been a contractor for 4 years now, and dream of creating spaces where folks can find self-empowerment, pleasure and fun while learning new skills!

The stewards of this farm are Tsimshian, who are not a federally recognized tribe. The farm is also not a non-profit so we rely on a lot of collective efforts to keep the farm afloat and thriving. Everything that is built on the farm is enjoyed by dozens of BIPOC folks through out Washington and Oregon. Please visit Rose Island Farm website to see how much programming is offered for free to the community. You can also donate directly to @Melissa-Meyer-152
