About the organization:
Rose Among Thorns is a non-profit community organization that supports vulnerable young single mothers and girls in Kiambu County, Kenya. These women face numerous challenges, including dropping out of school, unplanned pregnancies, divorce, widowhood, drug addiction, and the impact of HIV/AIDS. The organization aims to strengthen women by providing them with education, training, and empowerment opportunities.
Why our work is important:
Since 2021, there has been an overwhelming number of vulnerable young single mothers in Kiambu county. This is traced back to the reopening of schools after the Covid-19 lockdown, where colleges and high schools were overwhelmed with an increased number of students who returned pregnant or with young babies. These young women face stigmatization, hopelessness, and lack of opportunities. Rose Among Thorns provides them with a supportive community and the tools they need to rebuild their lives and create a better future for themselves and their children.
How the funds will be used:
The funds raised will be used to support various programs and initiatives, including:
Training: Providing soft skills training such as knitting, soap making, baking, and bead work, as well as life skills, core business skills, and computer literacy.
Education: Improving education opportunities for young single mothers and girls by sponsoring them to go back to school.
Spiritual Nourishment: Providing Bibles and Bible study materials, as well as public address systems for open-air meetings.
Empowerment: Funding a nails/beauty parlor where girls can learn and practice nail technology and beauty skills, as well as providing seed funds for them to start small businesses.
Blossom Again Events: Celebrating milestones and showcasing acquired skills with ceremonies that make the young single mothers and girls feel appreciated and accepted.
General Needs: Purchasing sewing machines, beauty and nail items, computers, diapers, food, children's clothes, t-shirts, ovens, and providing tutors' salaries.
