Ros Tapestry still needs your help
The Ros Tapestry is more than just an intricate story told in thread. It is the living history of our town and the surrounding counties, capturing the arrival of the Normans to Ireland's Ancient East. This monumental work, crafted by 180 dedicated volunteer stitchers over twenty-five years, is a testament to our shared heritage. Like the Bayeux Tapestry, our masterpiece is embroidered on linen with wool, preserving history through the same materials that have endured through the ages. These stitchers have left us a legacy that will last for generations, just as the Normans did centuries ago. We hope this Tapestry continues to inspire and educate long after the grandchildren of the original stitchers have grandchildren of their own.
New Ross Needlecraft Ltd, the management company of the Ros Tapestry has succeeded in bringing it home! We are very grateful to all our sponsors and friends who have enabled us to make such progress. We are currently preparing a secure, temporary exhibition space which will open in May 2025.
We are also supporting the continued stitching of the "Threads of Friendship’ tapestries. These tapestries were created to celebrate links with Europe and America.
With your help, we will continue to develop the vibrant tradition of tapestry making and needlework that has become a cornerstone of our town’s cultural life.
