Wildflowers & Wild Play — A Freya Memorial Project.

More beauty. More play. More light.

Saying Freya loved the outdoors is an understatement. She was a different kid by the time you put her in a swing, on a slide, or watched her walk in the grass and brush her hands over the flowers. We are most connected to her in nature and through these memories, and we hope the moments will never fade.

March 12 is Freya’s birthday, and we want to do something unique in our community to honor her. Besides home and the hospital, Freya spent so much time with her school family at Serena Hills and that felt like a great place to start. With their partnership, our first memorial fundraiser for Freya will be to create a beautiful space in the school courtyard in honor of our cherished girl.

The courtyard space will have a lot of beauty, and we want it to include:

• Garden beds with sensory plantings and accessible pathways.

• Space for outdoor learning and exploration.

• A photo op mural.

• New outdoor furniture that can withstand Illinois winters.

We also plan to provide new all-weather, kid-sized outdoor furniture for

the outdoor preschool playground at Flossmoor Hills Elementary School and Stepping Stones daycare. Both of those communities became an important part of our family when Freya entered through their doors.

If we exceed our fundraising goal, all funds will go toward:

• Maintaining and sustaining the sensory garden space

• Purchasing additional outdoor learning tools and play equipment

• Finding more opportunities to build Freya-inspired outdoor spaces in our community.

Our hope is that this fundraiser will create welcoming, inclusive outdoor spaces where our children can learn, connect, explore and play. We want this space to be a living, breathing place filled with laughter and light…and a little bit of Freya’s spark.

Every donation will help us bring this vision to life — from garden beds to an artistic mural that makes for a fun gathering space. Whether you give $10 or $100, you donation will help us plant something lasting in our community.
