I’ve been working with Treetops Hospice for many years in my role with patients with Motor Neurone Disease and more recently as a Forest Bathing Guide to try to make spending time in nature as accessible as possible for people that might not be able to get out into the woods. Over the last year I have been working with the volunteers on developing a special wheelchair accessible Forest Bathing area. This area is now much loved and well used. I am trying to raise funds to help put a corrugated iron roof on a shelter in this area so we can do our Forest Bathing come rain or shine. It’s on a wheelchair accessible concrete base and will allow so many people to experience the nostalgic feeling of being in a caravan in the rain! I’ve seen first hand how being outside and connecting with nature has improved people’s wellbeing, given them a sense of meaning and purpose and allowed them to experience the woods when they would not otherwise be able to. I have worked with patients with life limiting illnesses, carers and bereaved carers and the feedback from them from the sessions Forest Bathing has been incredible. If you can afford to give a small donation towards this cause it will make such a difference to people accessing the Hospice.
