Ronan's 2025 London Marathon for MacMillan Cancer Support
Thank you for visiting my page.
My name is Ronan Gaisford Carter, I’m 27 and originally from Wiltshire but now living in London. I will be taking part in the 2025 London Marathon and raising money for MacMillan Cancer Support for a number of reasons but mainly due to the impact cancer has had on my family.
Like so many other families, mine has always seemed to have the shadow of cancer looming over us. So much so that it seems inevitable that myself, one of my siblings or cousins will be next to have their own fight with the disease. For as long as I can remember cancer has had an impact on my family.
In primary school, my Grandad, Michael Carter, sadly passed away after a short battle with Myeloma. His funeral is my first memory of the devastation cancer can cause.
Later in life, my Uncle Chris was diagnosed and sadly lost his battle with Oesophageal cancer back in 2019. Being a lot older when this occurred, I saw first-hand the real impact cancer can suddenly have on the family left behind. Most recently, my Uncle Steve was diagnosed with Prostate cancer and is thankfully winning the fight.
Other sufferers in my family are: My Mum and Aunty Helen with Basal Cell cancer, My Grandma Pam with Cervical and Bowel cancer, Auntie Margaret with Hodgkins, Aunty Jenny with Lung cancer, and finally Aunty Sue with breast cancer.
Macmillan Cancer Support is dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by cancer. Founded in 1911, it provides vital services such as emotional support, financial assistance, and information resources to patients, their families, and caregivers. The organisation focuses on ensuring that everyone living with cancer receives the care they need, from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. I am running for Macmillan Cancer Support after witnessing all the great work they have done during my time working in the cancer care unit at Orpington Hospital.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, all donations whether they’re big or small are hugely appreciated!
Thank you for your support.
