Hi, I am writing on behalf of my life long friend Grace and her beloved son Roman. Unfortunately Roman is terminally ill and I am hoping that with your help we can bring some joy to Roman and support for his dedicated parents Callum and Grace and his younger sister Nola.
Romans Journey:
In January 2020 a tumour was found on Romans brain. At just three years old Roman had 8 hour emergency surgery within three days of this discovery to remove the mass, and after a biopsy was taken Roman was diagnosed with medulloblastoma; a common cancer found In children which effects the brain. Surgeons were able to remove a large part of this tumour however couldn’t remove all of it due to the sensitive location. After a further MRI scan it was revealed that the cancer was also found on his spine; this was devastating news for the family as Drs made Romans Parents Grace and Callum aware that continued treatment for this has a slim success rate.
Though the odds of success were slim, Grace and Callum refused to give up hope and decided to continue with the treatment, and so Roman had 6 weeks of radiotherapy. This had a positive effect on his spine and the remaining part of the tumour present on his brain. For four months after this Roman had weekly chemotherapy at the hospital to blast any remaining cells; but due to Covid-19 only one parent was allowed in at a time, making an already difficult time even harder as he was also separated from his sister.
Roman soldiered on throughout his intensive treatment regime and despite his tender age he took everything in his stride. When Romans chemotherapy treatment ended in September another MRI scan was needed to determine the success of the treatment. Concluding from this there was two pieces of tissue that were inconclusive of the cause and so Romans parents were advised to have another follow up scan in December. Roman spent the following months enjoying life as best as he could indoors due to lockdown rules with his little sister Nola and family.
During the month of December, Romans face started to swell and after another MRI scan Doctors confirmed that Roman had relapsed and the cancer had now spread to his jaw as well as small clusters on his brain and spine. A meeting with the Drs confirmed Romans mum and dads worst nightmare- Roman could not be cured and palliative care was the only option. (Palliative care is a care plan designed to provide the best possible quality of life for the terminally ill.)
Before Romans diagnosis he loved to go to indoor soft play with his little sister Nola, where he would play on the slides and ball pools; but unfortunately due to the Covid pandemic restrictions and his treatment regime this has not been possible. With your help we would love to raise funds to bring a soft play experience home to Roman for the day and to help take some of the financial pressures of Grace and Callum, so they can do everything they can to give Roman the best quality of life during these heart breaking times.
Thank you for taking time out to read Romans story. Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated at this most difficult time.
Heartfelt thanks, Nicole.
