I am writing on behalf of Laura and Perry, the parents of beautiful little 1 month old Roman.
Let me tell you a little bit about this little warrior. He was diagnosed with a critical form of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) when Laura was only 16 weeks pregnant.
The further the pregnancy progressed, the more uncertain Roman's condition became. A scan at 29 weeks showed their babies condition would likely not be compatible with life. In order to give Roman the best chance possible, Laura and Perry had to relocate an hour away from home to Brisbane Hospital, a month before Roman was born.
Roman was born fighting and at 8 days old, on February 14th, he bravely had to undergo his first open-heart surgery. Laura and Perry never left this little man's side.
Finally, when Roman was 3.5 weeks old and after 2 months of living away from home, they were told they could take their little boy home for the first time. A new home they had just recently purchased that they hadn't even had time to move into due to Roman's condition.
Four days. Laura, Perry, and Roman spent the next four days trying to ease their way into normality. No more doctors, nurses, medical tests or supervised feeding. Bliss.
On Saturday the 8th of March, Roman suddenly experienced severe respiratory failure, resulting in two cardiac arrests. He was rushed back to Brisbane to be placed on ECMO, the most serious form of life support, and required an emergency, life saving open-heart surgery. He’s currently in intensive care in a critical condition.
Laura and Perry have been informed that this process of recovery is going to be long, and are uncertain of when/if they will be able to take their little boy home again. They have been unable to return to work because of his critical condition and uncertain future and are no longer receiving paid leave.
I have set up this gofund me account in hopes that anyone who is able, can donate even $5 to help support Laura and Perry with their costs of living away from home including fuel, rent, food ect.
Anything is greatly appreciated, and they thank you from the bottom of their hearts for your support and prayers for Roman. For any further information about Roman and his condition, here is a link to a beautifully written blog by his Mother following their journey during pregnancy and after his birth.
