Rolling with Kiefer's Krew

Just over 7 years ago, we received the devastating news... Our beautiful 6-year-old son Kiefer was diagnosed with duchenne muscular dystrophy, the most severe form of MD. In most cases this means the loss of the ability to walk by 10, continued decrease in muscle strength and for most boys the loss of life in their 20s. Obviously devastating news to our family. As you can imagine it's been a tough road. But through it all, as a family, we’ve done everything we can to have him experience things in life that we knew one day he wouldn’t be able to. He’s seen a volcano, glaciers and geysers, yearly trips to the ocean with his grandparents and this year he became the manager for his middle school baseball team. Yet, through each of these experiences, we’ve had to smile through tears as we’ve watched Kiefer’s ability to walk deteriorate. He can no longer walk up stairs. He tires easily when he has to walk. And now getting in and out of a car is a real struggle. Last year we were “fortunate” enough that he qualified for a power wheelchair. And while we love riding along the neighborhood side-by-side with him, that’s all he can do with it. Unfortunately, the cost for the type of van he needs to get the chair and himself around is out of our reach. With his newfound love for baseball he recently said, “Can we go to Boston and see the Red Sox play?” We had to tell him there’d be now way to get there without a van. Soon this will be true for his entire quality of life. No way to get around and do the every day things we take for granted. It’s why we made this decision to reach out for help and make this happen for him. It’s why we’ve set up this Go Fund Me and why we’re asking for your help in joining Kiefer’s Krew as we do what we can for him as he loses his ability to walk.
