Zaaze has a dream.

He wants to become an astronaut one day.

Not because it is easy or realistic but because when he looks up at the night sky it reminds him that the world is bigger than the streets he grew up in. Although Zaaze goes to school every day learning does not stop when the bell rings. At home there is no quiet place to study no one to help with homework. Zaaze is not the only one, and that's why Thembisa Ratanga exists.

What is Thembisa Ratanga?

Thembisa Ratanga is a small, safe space in Khayelitsha, one of South Africa’s largest townships. Life here isn’t easy. Once the school day ends, many children go home to hunger, unsafe streets, and very few opportunities to learn or feel protected.

That’s why Bongeka and Aphiwe, two local leaders, decided not to look away. They created a place where more than 70 children can go every day, a place where they are safe, fed, and seen.

Thembisa Ratanga isn’t just a building. It is a place for a hot meal, a shield against the dangers of the streets, and most importantly a space where they can simply be kids.

The focus

As Thembisa Ratanga continues to grow, so does the number of children who rely on it every day. The current space is no longer large enough to comfortably accommodate everyone.

Thanks to previous donations, enough money has already been raised to fund a dedicated tutor for a full year. Now, our focus is on expanding and renovating the terrace area. By adding extra roofing and improving the outdoor space, we can create a larger, safer area where children can learn, wait, and spend time together.

Any additional funds raised will help us buy educational books, other educational materials, and support additional tutors as the centre continues to grow.

Because of these fundings, we can help 70+ children stay on track at school and give them a real chance at finishing their education, and eventually building a more stable future.

Who are we?

We are Lieve & Sacha. We are taking over Roger that from Rutger, Tristan, and Resa. We’re all students who came to Cape Town and experienced some of the best moments of our lives. But being here also means seeing a reality that is impossible to ignore.

That contrast stayed with us. So instead of just observing, we went to Thembisa Ratanga, met Bongeka and Aphiwe, met the children, and decided to do something, however small, to help.

Why Roger That?

The name started as a joke. When Rutger first arrived his name was too difficult to pronounce so he introduced himself as Roger. Roger That became our way of saying: You can count on us. It’s handled. It will be okay.
