Rock it for Omar- Osteosarcoma
Omar is a kind, intelligent kid who has had a pretty great childhood growing up in Bolingbrook. He has participated in rec t-ball and soccer programs, a theater program in which he performed as a pirate, sang at his church First Presbyterian Church of DuPage, and is involved in Boy Scouts. He currently attends Brooks Middle School where he is in National Honors Junior Society and plays trombone for the band. In 2019 he ran cross-country track. During the summers he has enjoyed swimming and attending STEM camps. Omar loves video games, watching YouTube, hamburgers, and debating current events with his family.
This January he started limping with a pain in his ankle. His parents took him to his pediatrician. They were then referred to an orthopedic surgeon, and then another orthopedic surgeon, at the University of Chicago. The results of his imaging required a biopsy which was then reviewed by specialist teams at 3 different hospitals, including Mayo Clinic. When the results were determined the diagnosis was very difficult news – Osteosarcoma (Bone Cancer). Omar began chemotherapy in April. In July he will begin radiation and a new immunotherapy which previously has only been used on adults.
We pray that this treatment shrinks the tumors. It is very expensive and we’re working with insurance to try to approve the expense. May God with whom all things are possible provide us strength, comfort, and healing.
