My name is Jodey Woody. I am raising funds for Rochelle Burns. She recently, on May 19th, went to work and got the phone call 30 minutes afterward that her house was definitely on fire. I met Rochelle through my neighbor Olivia Trejo; Rochelle was Olivia's health aide many years ago. The day I met her, I met all eight of her dogs as well. They were very well trained and listened to her no matter what she said. She works 13 12-hour days at The Allen Center overnight with Alzheimer's and dementia patients. She has lived in this home for 26 years. No husband, no siblings, no children. She is currently homeless. She does have an elderly uncle that allows her to shower as much as possible, but he doesn't have much himself. She is an incredible woman! I remember that after the first day I met her, she was unloading dog food, no problem at all, 25 lb bags for her beloved dogs. To be told days later that her house burned down (the structure is still intact, but the inside is completely ruined) and seeing it myself, it's heartbreaking. And to know that she was arrested whenever she did show up from work in a hurry, by Officer Baker, all she wanted to do was get to her babies, her dogs. Unfortunately, none of them made it. The fire department did everything they could, even putting oxygen on each. They are all gone. So now it is just her. The city wants $3,000 to tear the structure down, and all she's really wanting help with is prayers. She works her butt off and she has for years. She doesn't expect a handout and she doesn't know how to ask for help, so me and my old man have stepped in and are doing it for her. If we can come together as a community and get her house torn down, it's $3,000. She wants a little tiny home type structure afterward, and that's all she's wanting. It's going to take a lot of time to heal. For now, she has all of her belongings in her outside shed area, everything she could salvage, that is. She will be 60 on July 24th this year. How incredible would it be to give her a birthday gift like a home? She owns the property, so let's make it happen! Even if it's just something small like 16x8.
Rochelle Burns is with it! She deserves this.
