"Coach", or just " Bob", is what most of us called Robert Shaffer. While he certainly could be the most intense person when "inspiring" to get the best out of one of his athletes, or the entire team, he will also be remembered for his ability to put people at ease, laughing easily, and would always ask me, "How's your family doing?", because he was a husband and father too. There are many reasons to place a memorial monument to honor and remember Bob, however it was his remarkable abilities as Truckee High School's Head Football Coach that inspired his teams to win multiple football State Championships over his long and committed coaching career of 18 years. His coaching style made it clear it was each players responsibility to be a team; play as a team representing their school and community. The "Robert Shaffer Memorial Touchstone", is a volunteer effort. Materials & labor are donated. The memorial touchstone will be placed at the bottom of the stairway leading onto the playing field at Surprise Stadium making it accessible to players & coaching staff entering or leaving the field. We hope that "touching the stone" in remembrance, is sure to create a tradition for the Wolverines. Funding is needed to cover the cost of the bronze plaque that will be included as part of the monument with Coach Bob's Wolverine Teams' State & Division NIAA Championship titles and to remind us to keep living life, as he inspired so many to do. We do NOT have a exact cost of the plaque yet. We are hoping that $3000 will be enough > it may not. Any left over funds will be given as a football & cheerleader scholarship in Coach Bob's name> "Robert Shaffer Memorial Scholarship". Dedication of the memorial monument is set for Wolverine's 1st home game in September. Thank you for your help in creating the needed funds.
