We are Rob and Sandy McLaughlin. We live in Lafayette, Louisiana. On August 13th, 2016, our home was part of many homes destroyed by the massive flooding that has been called the worst natural disaster since Superstorm Sandy. Many residents including ourselves live in a higher elevation that is not considered a flood zone. Therefore, our insurance will not cover ANY damage that has occurred to our house. Luckily, Sandy was in California at the time of the flood visiting our new grandson Mason. When the flooding occured, my dog Trixsie and I were able to evacuate in time, but we are unable to return to the house because of all of the damage.
I was able to finally see our house 2 days later. Everything was destroyed due to massive flooding along with sewage leakage through the toilets and showers. All of the floors, furniture, family heirlooms, and personal belongings are not salvageable. Our whole lives are now a pile of garbage laying on the lawn waiting to be picked up. Luckly, we have a great community of friends and co-workers that were able to help me remove much of the damage from my house. However, we are not able to reside there until it is fixed.
We are asking for donations to help rebuild the house. I know it will take some time, but we can't do it alone. Every little bit will help in many ways. The money will go towards new dry wall, new cabinets, new beds, new furniture, and new flooring.
We've watched our girls go through high school and college while living here. This is our home, a place where we've resided for over 20 years. My wife and I spent over 10 years making it our dream home. This storm has now washed away many memories that we've come to cherish and remember. We will be forever grateful for any help that is given in our time need.
