Riding RAGBRAI for Valley Youth Theatre

Hello,

My name is Gary Moriarty. I was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa and currently live in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area.

In 1973, the Des Moines Register sponsored a bike ride across the state of Iowa. Approximately 300 people rode in the initial RAGBRAI.

This year (2023) from July 23 to July 30, an average of 28,000 daily riders will participate in the 50th anniversary of this event, RAGBRAI L. One of those riders, for the first time, will be me! I will be celebrating this event by riding 500 miles in 7 days across my home state and dipping my front bike tire in the Mississippi River, just a short 90 miles from my home town, Dubuque, Iowa! And, I will be celebrating my 70th birthday just a few short weeks after I finish RAGBRAI!

I have decided to use this exciting experience to raise funds for an extremely important organization, Valley Youth Theatre (VYT) in Phoenix, AZ.

The mission of VYT is to inspire young people to be the best they can be through a wide variety of performing arts opportunities. We offer a safe place where young people from diverse backgrounds can learn and grow as individuals, performers and leaders through a transformational performing arts experience. Most importantly, there is no cost to the children or their parents!
