THE IDEA: Over the last 2 or so years, our TVs, phones, and computers have been overflowing with negativity. By nature, I am a positive person, and it has been and will always be an ideal of mine that people and our communities as a whole are much less separated than we might think. Out of that, my wife and I created an idea to blend a combination of my love of cycling and the state of Wisconsin as well as benefiting the less fortunate. THE RIDE: The plan we created was to promote a 1,000 mile bike ride around the state of Wisconsin while promoting / accumulating donations for the organization ‘Feeding Wisconsin’ and their local food banks. The ride will be attempted over a 7 day period, roughly 150 miles a day, going clockwise around our great state. Major cities along the route include Wausau, Appleton, Sheboygan, Milwaukee, Madison, Lacrosse, Eau Claire, Rice Lake, Minocqua, Iron Mountain, and Shawano. THE GOAL: Our goal for this event is to feed the population of Marathon County that is deemed food insecure for just (1) day. That population is 11,600 people based on the most up to date information. Feeding Wisconsin is able to turn $1 into 3 meals, so this leaves our final goal at $11,600, although we would love to see that surpassed. To accomplish this goal, we will be reaching out to as many local Wisconsin businesses as possible to pledge an amount of money per mile to be donated upon completion of the ride (however much that ends up being). We would also absolutely love the support of anyone out there reading this! Support could be donating yourself, sharing this with a company who may want to be involved, or simply sharing this with a friend! We appreciate anything and everything! Funds raised will be distributed to all six Feeding Wisconsin member food banks serving families in all 72 counties in Wisconsin, to support the purchase and distribution of food and services via partner food pantries, meal sites, residential shelters, and mobile distributions.
