I wanted to update everyone on the diversity in beer work the RIDEA Committee has been working on since May. In less than a year, we have...
- Established a committee of about 50 folks dedicated to making the RI beer scene a safer and more inclusive space. We are in the process of filing for non-profit status and should have that completed soon.
- We have established a scholarship at JWU that encourages students to commit to creating a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the beverage-related field they choose to pursue.
- We have worked with the JWU design and brewing students to create a recipe and a label that will be used for a statewide collab beer that will benefit the scholarship.
- We are planning a beer festival this spring that will also contribute to the scholarship fund while showcasing women, LGBTQ, and/or BIPOC owners and brewers in RI and beyond.
- We are working on a free program for breweries that will teach them more about making their space a safe and diverse place to work and play.
We need to raise $2500 by June 30th to have the funds for the first student selected for the scholarship program. Because we've been working so hard on our non-profit status, collab beer, and festival, we haven't had much time to solicit donations. If you would like to help, we would greatly appreciate it.
