On November 10th I'll be riding 500km across Kenya. Starting as the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, I'll spend 5 days in the saddle tackling the Amboseli and Tsavo National Parks, riding alongside elephants, giraffes, zebra, lions before arriving at the Indian Ocean for a well earned dip!
I'm raising funds as part of an annual effort by The Liana Collection for two amazing charities.
1. Hughes Motivational Army - In July 2022, our friends, the Hughes family, received the unbearable news that their little boy, Otis, had been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML).
Oti was just 17 months old at the time of diagnosis, but is battling against AML with the determination and bravery of a true superhero.
The Motivational Army is a collection of friends and family across the world showing their support in various physical challenges.
The money raised is going towards helping the family while they focus on full time childcare for Oti and his brother Remy and The Dear Toby Trust; contributing to finding new ways to treat rare cancers and reduce the suffering of children enduring treatment, as well as towards funding the refurbishment of the Paediatric Oncology parents room on the ward where Oti is being treated at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
2. Child.Org. An incredible charity focussed on education communities across Africa on Childcare, pregnancy and motherhood. Children born in sub-Saharan Africa are 15 times more likely to die in childhood than children in Europe and North America. The earliest days of life are the most dangerous for children born in Kenya and all over Africa. Child.Org are dedicated to addressing this through educational programmes and investment in medical resources. On the last day of Ride Africa, I'll be meeting local communities that have benefitted from the support of Child.Org.
