Hi all, its that time of the year again when we have to get our bikes out of the garage and get the dust off and get training !
This will be our 5th annual bike ride from Flitwick to Overstrand in Norfolk which is approximately 130 miles in one day, in the memory of Linda My Mother in law.
We ride on Saturday 29th August 2026 , this year we have our first females joining us the lovely and brave Carol Herbert & Louise Sanchez, both have there own reasons for joining us and taking on this challenge! Also Dave Smith is joining this year,
A few words from David “I lost my wife, Jaime, in November 2025 after a 7 year battle that she had trying to beat the bowel cancer that ultimately took her from us. Cancer can affect people in different ways. For Jaime it took her away bit by bit, leaving her in agonising, unrelenting pain, taking away her mobility until she was bed bound, then just ebbed away her life force until she could fight no longer. It was absolutely gut wrenching for me, our children and the rest of the family to witness and for her to have to go through. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
And this is why I’m doing the ride this year - and hopefully for many more to come. If I can help prevent one family having to go through what we’ve been through then I’m all in. I know the ride is going to be painful - not just physically - but I’ll have Jaime on my shoulder all the way willing me on.”
David
This personally makes me so proud that we can make a tiny difference, not only for people suffering but us as well trying to make a difference and dealing with friends and family struggling with the disease, this ride is incredibly hard and uncomfortable for us novice riders, but no where near as painful or uncomfortable as having being diagnosed or having treatment!! I see first hand some treatment due to taking a close friend for treatment and shows that if we all keep raising money for research then who knows who will benefit going forward. I Also want to mention that there is tons more work to be done as there are special people to remember !
I personally have lost my dad in 2008, my special mother-in-law at Christmas time in 2019, but now two mates of mine I went to school with have both lost their battles with aggressive brain cancer, I know of others that have passed away due to cancer and it is or has affected everyone of us.
We cycle to Overstrand in Norfolk because this is where Linda loved to be whatever the weather, we have had caravans on Ivy Farm for over 45 years and we are lucky enough to still have them today !
I don’t think anyone will ever know the impact that Linda has had on me personally and to everyone that knows her, which is why I am determined to continue this annual event, if anybody wants to join us then they are more than welcome, please contact me personally 07787436846.
£1,500 is incredibly ambitious due to many different reasons but please tap, like, swipe, forward, join or whatever we need to do to advertise our event !! We will also be selling advertisement space on our cycling jersey which will be great to raise money as well.
This can only be achieved by having a special team of mates to help us all to get into Overstrand in one piece so please meet the team
