Richmond Marathon for Music For the Memory
I'm running the Richmond Marathon in September, raising money in aid of Music For The Memory, a fantastic East Sussex based charity.
Music for the Memory, supports those with memory issues Including dementia, as well as their carers, through the power of music.
It’s a charity that means a lot to me for many reasons. My mother in law is a trustee for the charity and has been involved in shaping the charity for several years. As a keen a musician myself, I also recognise the healing power of music and having a grand parent who lived with dementia I understand the challenges that those with memory issues and their carers face, as well as the value that support groups such as this provide.
Any Donations will have an impact and would be greatly appreciated!
The benefits of music for memory issues:
In September 2019 the World Health Organisation undertook a major study investigating the evidence for the health benefits of the arts.
A section on dementia found evidence of multiple specific benefits including reducing anxiety and depression; supporting cognition, speech and memory, reducing the need for antipsychotic drugs and fewer and shorter stays in hospital.
More information about Music For The Memory: We provide fun, FREE weekly singing sessions for those with memory issues including the elderly and those living with dementia. We are not a choir and no singing experience is necessary. Our sessions include a warm welcome, physical and vocal warm-up, and songs from our MFTM Songbook ,large screens displaying the lyrics. All sessions feature a live lead singer accompanied by a pianist. The singing lasts an hour following which we met in our "cafe" for refreshments/cake.
We are an innovative thoughtful group who are constantly striving to create a supportive, safe, and enjoyable environment for those living with memory issues and their carer.
