Merry Christmas 2022! How can it be that another year has flown by?! So grateful to all of our friends and family who have made Richie’s Layaway Angels a success 7 years in a row! That’s right, this will be the 8th Annual Richie’s Layaway Angels! So hard to believe that our loving son has been gone 9 years. I still think about him every day and although we miss him terribly, I am so honored and humbled that so many of you have kept his memory and spirit alive every Christmas by donating to Richie’s Layaway Angels so that we are able to help others in his memory. This has been the greatest gift to our family and I want to express our deepest heartfelt gratitude! Your kindness and generosity has made such a difference in so many lives! Last year we helped over 30 families by either paying off their layaway or giving them a Walmart or Target gift card to help provide a magical Christmas for their family. I remember there was one mother on Christmas Eve that had 7 children and had all these tiny toy items in her cart that looked like stocking stuffers, she told us that those were their Christmas presents and she wanted to make sure she got them all the same amount. We gave her $200 in gift cards and she literally just stood there and wept. She had told us that things were really tight and although she couldn’t afford much, she wanted to make sure they had something. We told her, as we tell all of our recipients, about Richie’s Layaway Angels and all of our wonderful friends and family who give every year to help other families in need while keeping our Richie’s memory alive! Many times I can’t help myself from shedding tears, and sometimes even Mike gets choked up seeing what a difference your gifts of love have made in many of these people’s lives! We did pay off Layaways last year at 2 stores a few days before Christmas and then on Christmas Eve we went to Walmart and then Target, said a prayer together before going in for God to lead us to a few people who could use a little extra help this year and he certainly did just that! I will share a few more stories over the next several weeks, of some of the precious families you helped last year! There are still a few stores offering Layaway this year, so we will once again pay off some of those Layaways the weekend before Christmas and then we will go spread some of the Christmas spirit on Christmas Eve once again by giving out gift cards to some families who are shopping last minute and God lays on our heart to help.
