New digs for Dick Bethman

Donation protected
Dick Bethman has a new home in an outstanding non-profit assisted living facility in Northglenn, CO, which has achieved its goal of having a family feel. He's adjusting well and starting to call it home. Although VA benefits will enable him to live there for many years, not all of the financial transition has gone as planned.  Help is needed to overcome the financial shortfall.

The goal of this fundraising effort is peace of mind for our friend.  It is rooted in respect, admiration, and affection for him.  Thanks in advance for your gifts, large and small.  We receive graciously and give joyfully.

Here’s some of what I’ve learned about Dick Bethman during our friendship.

He’s a proud veteran.

Dick served in the US Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1976 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.  He was stationed many places worldwide, including the Philippines, Vietnam, Alaska, Texas, New York, New Jersey, and Colorado. Friendships with his Air Force buddies are still cherished.

He’s a life-long athlete.

In high school, Dick was quite the jock, lettering in multiple sports and holding the Phillipsburg high school basketball scoring record for a few years around 1955.  No doubt some of his athletic ability came from his father, Carl Bethman, who played minor league baseball from 1936 to 1941. Dick and his father played on recreational teams together before Dick enlisted.

He’s a pin buster!
Dick started bowling while serving in the USAF and went on to be a professional bowler.

Among his many mementos is this letter from the American Bowling Congress congratulating him on a 299 score in February 1980…

... and this BPAA scoresheet showing a 799 series (wow!), along with this article about his team scoring 1208 with Dick as the anchor.

He’s a dog lover.
Springer spaniels, to be precise.  His Bonny was a great hunter, as was her son, Ty.

He’s a fisherman.

Dick cast many a fly on rivers, lakes, and streams all through the Rockies, and in Alaska too.

And of course, he’s a pool player.

Your best chance of seeing Dick these days is in a Denver area pool hall playing in NAPA, BCA, and VNEA leagues and tournaments. His competitive spirit is still strong! Just give him a chance to combo that 10-ball in, and more likely than not, he'll make it!
