Rhys Scott - From Broken Heart to Mended Heart
Rhys Scott Lamens was born on May 8, 2019. From very early on in his mother's pregnancy, Rhys has defied the odds and has been a true miracle!
After birth, Rhys was transferred to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. During a 2 week stay there, he was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect called Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV), the Tetrology type. His parents, Zane and Amber, were informed by doctors that his little heart would require surgery to sustain function. Through lots of prayer, Rhys was able to enjoy a 3 week stay at home with his parents and his proud big brother, Rowan. However, in what seemed like a very short time, his little heart began showing signs that it needed fixed sooner than later. Rhys was admitted back to Children's on June 15th. On the first day of summer, June 21, Rhys's parents handed him over to surgeons to repair his broken heart.
His parents are doing their best relying just on Zane's income, but their travel expenses (to and from Pittsburgh) as well as their daily living expenses while Rhys is on the road to recovery are burdensome. While it is very difficult for their family to be apart, your help will ease the burden of the financial stressors. At this point, it is not known how long Rhys's stay in the hospital will be, and following that, Amber will continue be at home for a time before she is able to return to work full-time.
Recovery for babies with CHD can be a long fought battle, but the family continues to feel blessed with the gift of Rhys. Any help you can provide will only add to those blessings. God bless and many thanks!
