Dear Colleagues, Friends and Family,
Appreciation
It is time for the Rhonda Phillips Scholarship Committee to meet. When we begin, we cheer the recipients of the awards in Rhonda’s name. We also applaud you, the donors who have enriched these deserving students’ futures. And again, we appeal to you to help us make this year’s scholarship fund secure by donating to the 2021 Rhonda Phillips Scholarship now.
Update
Dallas Pitman stood out and was the 2020 recipient. Her award will continue for four
years. We add her name to this list of Golden Sierra High School’s standouts: Nicole Cann, Madison Ziegler, Sam Johnson, Katie Hughes, Nick White, Jenna Delongchamp, Lily Palmer, Abigail Weaver, Bailey Borello and Ryan Torres. All of them reflect the qualities of Rhonda herself. They are leaders and scholars. They are empathetic and caring, and each one is destined to improve our world. And quickly, the calendar has turned, and we again have become focused on student excellence and empathy, achievements and dreams.
An Unusual Year
There is no doubt that every school, every class, every instructor, and every high school student has faced monumental challenges this year. But ZOOM classes and tutorials, learning clubs and mentors, extended hours and personal field excursions have helped mold a new crop of inspired young people. The arrows of their futures are targeting a college education. And so, we will help.
Appeal
Rhonda’s scholarship assures the support of young, promising “dreamers and doers.” It is
only possible because of you who donate. And what a hard financial year! Yet we ask that you help our group by investing in the education of young adults. The academic road, in this pandemic year, has been rugged, but scholarships help smooth the ride. For past donors, we thank you for the exciting chance at extending Rhonda’s great passions: education and commitment to youth.
Join the Team!
Now, as we are turning to the 2021 graduating class, will you help us stand beside another
graduate who wants to launch a college path and a career dream? Please donate to the
“Rhonda Phillips Scholarship”. We have 3 options - mailing a check to Black Oak Mine Unified School District and then writing Rhonda Phillips Scholarship on the memo line (address below). Or go online to https://www.gofundme.com/f/rhonda-phillips-2021-scholarship-fund with your debit/credit card. The district office account holds our funds and ensures a tax-exempt status for you donors.
We elect the recipient early in May and ask that donations be received by April 30, 2021.
Help us continue, as Rhonda did, to change the world one student at a time.
Sincerely,
Tom Gilchrist, Chairperson, Randy Phillips, Treasurer, Rhonda Phillips Scholarship Awards Committee
