My 42nd marathon takes me back to the UK, Brighton, East Sussex. This week’s run is for African Pastors Fellowship (APF), a Christian charity equipping pastors and church leaders across Africa to bring the hope of the gospel and practical transformation to their communities.

What is the struggle?

Across Africa, pastors are often at the very heart of community life. They lead churches, care for the vulnerable, teach children, and bring the good news of Jesus into places where hope can feel scarce. Yet many pastors serve with little or no training, very limited resources, and without the support they need. In these situations, the church’s ability to be salt and light is held back—not because of a lack of faith, but because of a lack of tools.

Why am I running for this cause?

Because the local church is God’s plan for transforming communities. When pastors are trained, resourced, and encouraged, they can minister more effectively, plant new churches, and bring both spiritual and practical hope to people in need. Running for APF is my way of standing with those leaders, believing with them that God can use their ministry to change lives across Africa.

What is African Pastors Fellowship and what do they do?

APF has been serving in Africa since 1981, partnering with churches across the continent. They provide theological training, Bibles and study materials, and practical resources for pastors—especially those in rural and hard-to-reach places. Through initiatives like the eVitabu app, APF equips leaders with biblical teaching, discipleship resources, and training in sustainable livelihoods, enabling them to serve their churches and communities with wisdom and strength.
