Re-wild Mount Pleasant Hill green!

Re-wilding Mount Pleasant Hill: A Community Oasis for our little bit of Clapton

Help us transform our slightly boring green space into a vibrant, wildflower haven for people, pollinators, and our community.

We plan to plant wildflowers, grasses, shrubs and herbs, all natural to the UK, non-toxic to humans and pets , non-invasive, beautiful to look at and really good for the environment.

We're aiming for a Spring planting session with all the local residents that want to get involved!)

(Also, I'm so sorry about the terrible 'artist rendition' photoshop job lol)

Our Story

Hello, and thank you for visiting our page!

We are a group of neighbours living across blocks of flats on Mount Pleasant Hill in Clapton, united by a shared vision for the re-wilded green space right outside our doors. This large patch of grass, along the main road, has so much untapped potential.

Currently, it's a blank canvas - a "slightly boring" lawn. We see an opportunity to create something special—a beautiful, biodiverse sanctuary that buzzes with life and colour. We believe our shared spaces should nourish not just us, but the local wildlife that calls Hackney home.

The fantastic news is that we have full permission from the landowner to proceed! This is a genuine community-led project, and we need your help to make it a reality. We would like as many local people to be involved as possible.

We are proud to announce that we are also officially affiliated with the fantastic local charity, Eco-Active, who specialise in creating and supporting community gardens and wild spaces across Hackney. They will be our official partner, ensuring every penny is professionally managed and accounted for.

The Vision: What We're Creating

Our plan is simple yet transformative: to re-wild carefully chosen sections of the green.

We will:

· Sow native UK wildflower plugs and seeds, grasses, shrubs and herbs, focusing on plant pollinator-friendly species to create stunning, natural displays that change with the seasons (all native and completely non-toxic or invasive)

· Introduce different species to add texture, movement, and habitat.

· Crucially, keep plenty of open grassy space for everything the community already enjoys: walking, sitting, picnics, dog walking, and easy access.

This isn't about taking away the grassy space space; it's about adding layers of life, beauty, and interest to it. Imagine the buzz of bees, insects and butterflies, the sight of colourful, swaying wildflowers on our residential street, and a space that feels truly alive and connected to nature.

Why This Matters

· For Wildlife: In an urban environment, every patch of habitat counts. Our project will provide crucial food and shelter for bees, butterflies, insects, and the birds that feed on them.

· For Our Community: This space will become a point of pride, a natural talking point, and a living, breathing piece of beauty for everyone on Mount Pleasant Hill and beyond. It’s about improving our shared environment, together.

· For Wellbeing: Access to beautiful, natural spaces is proven to boost mental health and foster a sense of community. This is an investment in our collective happiness.

How You Can Help

This is a 100% volunteer-powered project. Every penny will go directly towards buying what we need to create and sustain this new ecosystem:

· Native Wildflower Seeds & Plug Plants (UK-sourced for the best ecological fit)
· Native Grasses, Shrubs and Herbs
· Essential Ground Preparation Materials (e.g., peat-free compost, soil amendments, sand etc)
· Basic Maintenance Tools & Supplies for our residents volunteer team

We are doing all the labour ourselves—the digging, sowing, planting, maintenance and caring—driven by love for our neighbourhood, with the expert support of Eco-Active.

Our Promise & Transparency

This project is a not-for-profit, grassroots initiative. We will post regular updates here with photos of our progress, from the first dig to the first bloom, and are committed to full transparency. There will also be a WhatsApp group setup for people to join.

Join Us in Growing Something Beautiful

Whether you're a resident, a local neighbour, a friend of Clapton, or someone who believes in the power of community greening, your support means the world to us.

Please donate whatever you can to help us sow the seeds of change. Even the price of a coffee will help buy a packet of seeds that will bloom for years to come.

If you can't donate right now, you can still help immensely by sharing this page with your networks, friends, and local community groups.

Where Your Donation Goes

· £5 – The Bee's Knees: Buys a packet of native wildflower seeds.
· £15 – The Butterfly Boost: Funds a tray of pollinator-friendly plug plants.
· £30 – The Habitat Hero: Covers soil prep and seeds for a whole square metre of new meadow.
· £50+ – The Landscape Gardener: Helps us buy tools, larger plants, and ensures the project thrives for years.

Let’s work together to make Mount Pleasant Hill a little more wild, a lot more wonderful, and a true haven for all.

With huge thanks,

The Mount Pleasant Hill residents
(In partnership with Eco-Active, Hackney)

P. S Any excess funds not used will be donated to Eco Active, so they can carry on with their long term projects of developing more gardens and wild areas, nearby in the community.
