Hi, I'm Todd Conroy, NBO Baseball and Softball Club Director in Citrus Heights, California. We are a 501c non-profit sports organization that provides baseball/softball for kids ages 13+ through college age. We have a very small budget through player registrations and snack bar purchases. Our baseball/softball field is Westwood Park, 8100 Butternut Dr., Citrus Heights. Our needs are immediate:
1. Dugouts are made of wood and chain-link fencing and need to be replaced and lengthened to 25 ft by 10 ft and raised to a 10 ft height;
a. Dugout walls are dry rotted and vandalized
b. Roofs are caving in;
1. Roofs have a metal over wood but would need to either be replaced or lengthened with additional metal roofing
c. Chain link has been cut multiple times and has been patched repeatedly
d. Benches are in need of replacement with length
e.
2. Scorebooth is also in need of renovation
a. Stairs are dry rotted and falling through
b. Electrical lighting is needed due to night games
c. Roof needs to be replaced and shingled
d. Scoring table needs to be replaced and interior area should be sectioned for both storage and people use
e. Chain link backstop needs to be replaced
f. Backstop wood needs to be replaced
3. Backstop wings
a. Wood protection needs to be replaced on both sides and painted
b. Chain link is in need of replacement
c. Backstop chain overhang should be eliminated and height extended
1. Backstop wings should be extended to a safer height
4. Field gate entrance
a. Right field entrance needs to be moved so that dugout can be lengthened
5. Multiple areas of the surrounding field chain link need to be replaced
a. The chain link on the outfield fence has not been replaced since opening in the 1970s
b. Chain link has been cut and patched in multiple sections
6. Outfield lights
a. Many of the halogen lights are no longer working
b. 18 LED lights have been installed due to our organization; 18 halogen lights are left and cannot be replaced due to age;
1. Requires 18 additional LED replacements and installation
7. Infield replacement
a. Many areas on the infield are in need of either additional infield mix, artificial turf, or grass;
1. Field is both dirt and turf.
8. Snack Bar
a. front awning is is disrepair and needs to be reattached to the building
b. exterior lighting should replaced
c. wood needs to be painted
These are the most important fixes that are required to make this facility more accessible and safe to play.
We've been fundraising for a new scoreboard, but unfortunately, most of those funds have been used to cover everyday costs of running a baseball program, i.e., uniforms, baseballs, bats, monthly snack bar electrical costs, monthly storage box rentals, etc., so a scoreboard replacement and installation would be a wonderful addition.
This facility is used by many kids and I feel that the replacements and/or fixes would make the program more successful and safer.
