Reuniting with My Birth Family in Africa!

Hello everyone, As many of you know but some of you may not, in 2006 I was adopted from Liberia. There is so much to say about my home country to provide you with needed context on a misunderstood country, but I will say that to this day, Liberia and its people need our attention. I am so blessed to announce the very unexpected news that after 16 years I have found my birth family, due to the state of the country we had no idea they were even alive. This all unfolded during Christmas and it is the greatest gift I could ever imagine. A few days before Christmas my dad, Massa, and I sat down to write to the Liberian Embassy in Washington D.C. hoping that eventually, they’d provide insight on any living relatives in Liberia. This turned out to be an unsuccessful attempt but little did we know what was soon to come. After contacting the embassy, the assistant director of the orphanage Massa and I were placed in shared with my mom the name of a pastor in Liberia, known to reunite relatives. This seemed like a long shot that would potentially take years to unfold but we have never been more wrong. Within a few days, he found reached out with the greatest news one can receive; he found our birth parents. This truly is a miracle. Our story doesn’t end there-we welcomed 2023 in the most beautiful way. A video call was arranged for
us to be reunited after over a decade of not knowing any of us were alive. I cannot put to words the emotions that were coming from both sides of the screen. Suddenly all the pieces fell into place. Not only was I faced with my birth parents but I met my five additional siblings. It’s safe to say there has been constant yearning for each other since 2006. This is a missing piece of my being that we never knew could be filled and let me tell you-my work is just getting started. Liberia is a war-torn and forgotten country and despite the ocean between us I want to do everything in my power to protect my birth family. I have taken to social media to ask for you to join me on this journey.

Your generous support will directly impact their life by providing the following:

Education for my siblings-as of now education is not available to them in our remote village and because of this, they are not educated. Donations allow my siblings to receive education and housing in Liberia’s capital Monrovia. This includes primary education all the way to trade school.

Transportation to Monrovia for Bendu’s (my birth mother) medical needs

Basic human needs-they live in the remote village where Massa and I were born and increasing food, clean water, and clothes will impact their daily lives.

Personal saws for Sao’s (my birth father) livelihood-right now he rents saws for logging and that greatly decreases any income.

Knowing my birth family is alive is something I never thought to be a reality-and I will stop at nothing to help. I am so grateful for you and your support in this unexpected discovery. This means the world to Massa and me but even more to Bendu, Sao, and my five other siblings in Liberia. God bless.
