COVID and finances have kept the matriarch apart from us for too long!
Bring my mom, my abuela, and I together in the motherland for the first time since I was a baby.
Funds will go to air fare, support for my mom while she travels, and helping our elder with our family home down south.
Any help that you can contribute is greatly appreciated. As y'all know I've been organizing in Asheville with various projects for a few years, especially this past year, and am hoping that the love and care I've poured into community comes back. It feels really vulnerable to ask for help. But I have felt the calling to head south for a long time and finally feel ready to go. Some of you may also know how difficult the last year has been amidst various losses and grief during a pandemic. I am very much needing to be with my people.
Traveling is expensive and my mom and I don't have the extra funds right now. She does not get PTO with her job and could really use the extra support as well. My abuela is getting older and has been scared to fly north during COVID, which is why we are headed down there instead of vice versa! My mom has been wanting to spend Christmas in her home country for a long long time (it has been over 20 years) and it would make her incredibly happy to go home for the holiday. We plan to help my abuela around the house with things she hasn't been able to do as well. The closer we get to Christmas, the higher the plane tickets get, so we'd love to be able to purchase them soon.
Again, thank you so much to anyone who is able to pitch in and bring us together. In light of Latinx Heritage month, we hope you feel good about giving back and helping us overcome the obstacles that borders create for families.
And lastly - If you voted for Reagan, consider staying in contact to pay for all of our plane tickets forever :)
But seriously, we really appreciate any help you can give, more than you know. Thank you.
